MY EXPERIENCE IN KOMA HILLS. Series 11.

My Hut.

Tired was an understatement when I got to Koma Hills, I was led to a hut that will serve as my room throughout my stay on the hills. I woke up the following morning refreshed, freshened up to go join other teachers on the assembly ground. Then I saw all the sirs and mas polishing their shoes and all dressed up like they were expecting an important personality.

I looked at them and thought to myself, ‘maybe they are going to the city’. I moved close to them and told them I’m ready for the assembly. They all looked at me with a smile, then Sir Badmus one of the Sirs told me to go dress up properly for the assembly that we are the best model the kids could see so we have to show them standard.

I was puzzled because wearing slippers seems overdress to me considering what I saw in the documentary about them but I was wrong. I was shocked when I got to the assembly and saw how well dressed the kids were all looking.

After their usual routine on the assembly, one of the Sirs came out to address the pupils regarding how the boys ironed their school uniform, he discouraged the boys from ironing their polo up that their polo must always be ironed down. My mouth was wide open in surprise because I never expected to hear such in Koma.

One of the teachers needed to go to Yola (the city) for an official assignment so I was told to take his class, Basic 2. I saw that as an opportunity to have a close rapport with the kids. Things went smoothly until it was time for the class devotion, I realized they all have the Holy Bible and class prophet and prophetess. I giggled a little so I collected the bible from the class prophetess who was on duty to teach the other kids the word of God and I preached to them. Meanwhile, I realized the pupils handled the word session in other classes so at night during the night prep devotion, I decided to allow them do their thing and I was blown away with their level of knowledge of God’s word and how organised they are.

Other sirs and mas were eager to hear about my experience with the kids, they started laughing when I was telling them then Sir Paul one of the sirs promised to take me around the settlement and most especially to their weekly market in few days’ time.

I could hardly wait for the day we fixed because Koma to me didn’t look like where Naira will be accepted, I had a belief that cowries will sure be their legal tender. Let’s meet here next week, you sure don’t want to miss the next series. Till then, keep following your dreams, it might be challenging but I promise you it will be peaceful for peace is the divine compass that guides every dreamer.
