What We Do
The Oasis Academy (TOSA)
Our Operations
The Oasis Academy (TOSA) is an educational reception and development center where out-of-school street/slum kids are adequately equipped with basic educational knowledge and life skills training before being integrated fully into standard schools.
Children living in slums, streets and disadvantaged communities are often not able to attend schools or their education gets interrupted/halted due to various interrelated factors. These factors may include the inability of or lack of parents/guardians to support and financially sponsor their education, gender bias against female children/wards, disability or illness, and inconvenient environmental and living conditions. Additionally, such children are usually left to fend for themselves (and even their parents), or engage in menial activities, and in worst case scenarios, may be introduced to a life of crime and scrupulous activities. In a bid to provide education for them, it is important to prepare, (re)introduce and transition them successfully into a life of formal education and training, so that they are well positioned and intellectually ready to receive education and learning to the best of their abilities.
Therefore, The Oasis Academy (TOSA) bridges this gap between uncoordinated street life and formal educational training by providing these out-of-school street and slum children with an initial 6-months educational training in the basic subjects – English Language, Mathematics and General Studies, before enrolling them into a formal school for proper inclusion. For eligible teenagers and youth, they are additionally provided with relevant vocational and life skills which empowers them with opportunities for regular and dignified sources of income. TOSA runs its classes 3 days in a week in target disadvantaged communities.
